Apple has approved a new social gay app has been developed to give the gay community a more "tasteful" alternative. According to CNET on Dec. 14, the new app Distinc.tt will be advertised as the only gay social app for ages 12 and up.
This means that the app will be available in iTunes store and an app that is in good taste and brandishes itself as "clean, social, and fun" unlike the app Grindr which Distinc.tt CEO Michael Belkin said he was "disgusted by the tasteless torsos and imagery ." So he was inspired to create this new app which will emphasize the "good-taste part of the gay stereotype" and in doing so will attract the mainstream advertisers.
Labeled as an app that can be brought "home to mom", the app will gives its users ideal locations for vacations, restaurant choices, party and special events in the places visited or in the surrounding areas where a user lives.
Dinstinc.tt may be most valuable for those in the gay community who may be just searching for the value of friendship and not necessarily looking for a sexual encounter, but that doesn't mean the app will gain in popularity. That of course will depend on how easy and accessible it is for its users.
But as described by its creators, it is "the only app that combines social networks, event ticketing, attendee visibility, location-based services, and hot-spot locating with predictability and in real time."
Sounds like a winner, but of course time will tell. It does promise to be less sketchy than Grindr.
