LGBT Family Matters Conference set for Widener University October 15, 2011

On Saturday, October 15, 2011, Philadelphia Family Pride will host a Family Matters Conference for LGBT parents and prospective parents at the University Center on the main campus of Widener University from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Register now to attend! Early registration fees are $5/adult for PFP members and $10/adult for non-members. Children and students are free. Pre-registration ends October 10, so register today!

PFP will provide free, on-site child care for kids 3 and over. Pre-registration by October 10 is required to a hold a spot in the kids zone. You may bring your own lunch or pre-order a box lunch for $5 each.
 
There are 18 different workshops and panels planned for the day, including:
 
- Pink, Blue or Green? A discussion about raising healthy gender nonconforming kids in a pink and blue world

- Becoming Parents: Negotiating the Transition to Parenthood

- What Does Saying “I DO” Mean for You?: Relationship Recognition and the Legal Confusion over Marriage, Civil Unions and Domestic Partnerships

- Leave Your Baggage at the Door: Talking to Kids About Sex and Sexuality

- Ask the Experts! Teen Panel

- In the Spotlight: The pressure to be a model LGBT family

- Transgender Legal Issues

- What is Normal Anyways?!: Helping Parents and Schools Look at Difference

- LGBT Family Planning, Legally Speaking

- Talking About Transition

- The State of Equality for LGBT Families in Pennsylvania

Prospective LGBT parents are welcome at all workshops, but there will be three panel discussions specifically for prospective parents:

 
- Babymaking in the 21st Century: Assisted Reproductive Options

- Adoption Options

 - Dos and Don'ts of Donor Insemination

New this year are sessions for the whole family - kids and parents together.

- Kids and Their Parents Ask Health Questions: A Whole Family Workshop with Dr. Alexis Lieberman

- Tools for Talking About Families: An Interactive Art Workshop for the Whole Family

- Stress Relief for the Whole Family through Yoga and Meditation

 
- Bang Your Drum! A Percussion Workshop for the Whole Family
