‘Tis the season of joy, cheer, hospitality, friendship, love, and of course, equal rights. Members of Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) went down to Union Square in San Francisco to sing Christmas carols rewritten with marriage equality words. The carolers were dressed in holiday clothing and passed out stickers to people standing by enjoying the holiday music during the hectic shopping weekend. Here are some of the lyrics that were sung:
EQUAL RIGHTS! (Sung to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)
Wedding bells will ring,
Making spirits bright.
Oh what fun when everyone has equal marriage rights! Oh ...
Equal rights, equal rights, equal all the way!
Oh what fun it is to sing for equal rights today!
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS MY EQUAL RIGHTS!
All I want for Christmas is my equal rights, My equal rights, my equal rights!
WEDDING BELLS!
(Sung to the tune of "Silver Bells")
Wedding Bells, Wedding Bells
It’s Marriage Time in the City
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Soon it will be our Wedding Day
Prop 8 Supporters (to the tune of “Frosty the Snowman”)
Prop 8 supporters
Were misled by hateful ads
What they didn’t say is that here today
Gays are happy moms and dads.
Prop 8 supporters
What your kids already know
Is that friends at school whom they think are cool
Have two moms or dads at home.
