LGBT Boston Film Festival Continues This Week

With all the Tribeca Film Festival goings on and the other Boston film festivals happening around town, there was one festival that flew under the radar. As it turns out, it's okay because there is a film showing during the festival run that flew under the festival's radar as well.

The 27th Annual Boston Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Film Festival started Thursday May 5, and runs through Sunday May 15. Through features and shorts, narratives and documentaries, the films try to cover the breadth and depth of LGBT life, loves, relationships and community. The festival has everything from Tom Tykwer's return to German cinema with “Three” (“Drei”) (the director of “Run Lola Run” weaves a complex story about an affair with a bisexual twist) to “We Are the Night” about lesbian vampires (everyone loves lesbians; everyone loves vampires; so everyone should love this totally win-win scenario!) screening on Friday the 13th . The festival's usual home is the Museum of Fine Arts, but the Brattle Theater has also been screening films for the fest since 2009.

There is once film dealing with Transgender issues that isn't part of the festival line up that is screening in the area as well on Monday, April 9. “Thy Will be Done” follows Male-to-Female transgender Sara Herwig. Having realized her gender while in seminary, she continues her studies, marries the woman of her life and tries to get ordained within the Presbyterian clergy. The film is touring around the nation and makes a stop at the Robbins Library in Arlington, MA at 6:30pm on Monday. Both the cast and the filmmaker will be in attendance at the screening in the Robbins Library Community Room, so be ready for a good Q&A session following the film.

So if you're curious—or even if you're not—check out the Boston LGBT Film Festival running this week.
