LG Electronics has announced at CES 2013 that their highly anticipated OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV is set to become available to consumers in March.
The 55-inch WRGB OLED TV will be expected to sell for $11,999, and unlike standard RGB OLED TVs, the WRGB version adds white sub-pixels for greater color accuracy.
"OLED TV will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment," said Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA Inc. "With its lifelike color, infinite contrast ratio and slim profile, LG OLED delivers an outstanding viewing experience; it's undoubtedly a premium product worthy of its premium price."
The razor-thin OLED TV is only 0.16 inches (4 mm) in thickness and weighs a little under 22 pounds. LG will also use its exclusive Color Refiner to deliver greater tonal enhancement for a more vibrant picture, while an "infinite" contrast ratio promises to offer optimal contrast levels.
Keep in mind that an OLED TV is separate from a 4K (aka Ultra-HD) TV in that it works with current HD content.
