Many of the NCAA's corporate partners us the Final Four weekend as a chance to showcase or introduce their latest products. It's the perfect venue, well over 100,000 people, a great environment and one of the biggest spectacles in sports.
LG is one of these companies.
While LG may best be known as a global television and mobile communications technology leader, it took this opportunity in Atlanta to show off their new line of high tech appliances.
“In the spirit of the NCAA Final Four, where some of college basketball’s most talented players bring their best to the court, LG is showing off its winning innovations in Atlanta this weekend,” said James Fishler, senior vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA.
LG went all out with their Fan House in the Bracket Town fan fest adjacent to the Georgia Dome. Here you could try out all of LG's home appliances, smartphones and home entertainment systems.
Basketball fans were loving the Smart TVs and the washing and dryer loading and unloading contests.
Some of the high tech items visitors to the Fan House were able to see included LG’s French-Door Refrigerator with its innovative Door-in-Door feature, the Easy Clean™ feature on LG’s newest range, and the great LG Dishwasher with EasyRack™ and TrueStream™ Technology.
To further entertain potential customers and show that even a couple old basketball coaches could thrive using LG products, LG recruited a couple top recruiters in West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins and South Carolina's Frank Martin for the LG Coaches Cook-Off.
With Atlanta chef and "Top Chef All-Stars" winner Richard Blais hosting and serving as a judge in the contest, there would be no losers. In fact, $20,000 was raised for Coaches vs. Cancer as Huggins and Martin took to the stage to make pizza.
I almost didn't recognize Coach Huggins in his chef's outfit. He and Martin attached their task head on and with the help of one of Blais' sous chefs they were off making pizza. Huggins went with a meat lovers special and Martin went with ricotta cheese and a pizza that would present well.
Huggins ended up winning the spirited competition, but only after he yelled at a kid wearing a Syracuse shirt in the crowd, and answered a question on why his team wasn't playing in the Final Four with "didn't you see us play this year?"
Huggins took the title, and told me he loved the LG appliances.
"Unbelievable, I'm never seen a refrigerator with so many compartments!"
A great time was had by all, and LG is making a lot of new fans in Atlanta at the Final Four. It's appears with LG, that life is really good.
