Lexus will be revealing the previously rumored RC F muscle variant of the all-new RC coupe at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week according to an announcement from Lexus on Wednesday.
The all-new RC Coupe Concept was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last November. In December, Lexus told us about a dynamic new red color from a new paint process that will be available on the RC and began hinting that there was a muscle variant – the RC F – of the RC that would be shown at the Detroit Show in January.
Lexus confirmed Wednesday that the RC-F will be revealed in Detroit as they released some pictures (in a blue - not the new red exterior) and giving us some interior and exterior details.
But there was no direct mention of the power train except an inference that the RC F would be the most powerful V8 performance car ever developed by Lexus.
On the street, the speculation is that it may be a seriously ‘muscled-up’ version of the 5.0L – 420 horsepower engine from the IS F.
Seriously ‘muscled-up’ has been defined as anywhere from 455 to almost 500 horsepower and an expectation that it would be mated to a similarly enhanced version of the eight-speed Sport Direct Shift Transmission.
As seen in the pictures, the RC F has wider wheels and tires, an active rear wing, air scoops, cooling ducts and is said to have available carbon fiber components, all which will contribute to a serious muscle drive experience with finesse.
Yes, the signature Lexus spindle grille with a subtle F-pattern on the lower half is there and it dominates the front of the RC F from the bottom of the hood to the lower lip.
The hood is higher than that of the RC to accommodate the larger V8 engine and gives the RC F the muscle flared profile more suited to an F model.
Ducts beneath the front bumper, fenders, and strategically-placed aerodynamic stabilizing fins create a stance which further identifies the F model.
Air outlets at the rear of the front fender form the shape of an L when they merge with side sill extensions, while stacked trapezoidal quad-outlet tailpipes at the rear add further aggression.
The new RC F features also an available speed-sensitive active rear spoiler according to Lexus. It will deploy from the RC F’s deck at approximately 50 mph and retracts when the speed is less than 25 mph. The wing will help the RC F maintain traction and stability at higher speeds.
Three variations of 10-spoke 19-inch forged aluminum wheels are available, including two machine polished designs and one design hand polished by a craftsmen.
On the inside, Lexus says they have created RC F unique components that include the meters, steering wheel, seats, ornamentation and pedals. The instrument panel is dominated by a central meter which changes according to the four selectable driving modes. The information, color of the display and size of text can be customized by the driver.
The RC F will debut a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel with optimum placement of paddle gear shifts. All-new high back seats with an embossed F on the headrests will provide performance fit. The seats are available in a selection of five leather trims, each with contrasting stitching.
The all-new RC F will be revealed at a press conference at the 2014 North American International Motor Show on Jan. 14.
