Lexus drops IS-F Sports sedan because of low sales (Photos)

GT Spirit announced earlier today (March 16,2013) that Lexus has decided to drop the IS-F Sports sedan altogether for 2014, although the 2013 model will still be available to buy. Ever since the newest version of the IS dropped just a couple of weeks ago, many Lexus faithful were wondering if the F series will make a return as well, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case. Lexus cites poor sales (486 total units sold) last year.

Poor sales aren’t the only reason that the Lexus IS-F was dropped. For one, the price tag of $61,000, although on the same price level as a 2013 BMW M3, was just out of the price range of many Lexus owners who wanted to upgrade. Another was that the 18 MPG rating just wasn’t relevant enough to stay in Toyota’s overall plan for a relevant M3 fighter ( The M3 offered 20 MPG).

In a review back in February, Motor Trend generally praised the Lexus IS-F for its world class interior, amazing V8 engine (416HP and 371 lb-ft of torque) and relentless braking abilities. I suppose not to many people jumped on the importunity to buy one.

Nevertheless, Lexus will take a different route to challenge the 2013 BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG.
