Lexie Madden is Miss America’s third runner-up

Lexie Madden on Saturday became the first Miss Wyoming to make the top five at the Miss America Pageant since Carol Held was named first runner-up in 1948.

Madden was named third runner-up at the pageant, broadcast live on Saturday night by ABC.

Judges were impressed by her performance of “Canzone Lenta” on the piano, and her pageant platform on “Raising Awareness of the Importance of Physical Activity in Youth.”

“Obesity rates have tripled in the last three decades, so it’s definitely something our society has to change," she told the Star-Herald in June. "I just want to promote it to kids and show them physical activity doesn’t have to have a negative connotation, it can definitely be something fun for them.”

She attends the University of Wyoming. She is a graduate of Torrington High School.

Her ambition is to earn a doctorate in pediatric physical therapy and to provide rehabilitation care for children as a pediatric physical therapist.

She is 21 years old and a resident of Torrington, Wyo.
