The Brubeck Institute located at the jazz giant’s alma mater, University of the Pacific in Stockton, has set the dates and artists for its 2012 Brubeck Festival. Here’s the lowdown:
We are featuring artists who have energized their musical communities: Willie Akins from St. Louis, Debbie Duncan from Minneapolis, the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra in our community, and our headliner, Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez with his trio.
March 28: Drummer Lewis Nash and guests
March 29: Pacific Jazz Ensemble, Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet featuring Lewis Nash; also Willie Akins Quartet featuring Debbie Duncan
March 30: Afternoon interview and panel discussion with Keith Hatschek about Dave and Iola Brubeck's musical, "The Real Ambassadors," featuring special guests Yolande Bavan and Ricky Riccardi; evening concerts with Sacramento Jazz Orchestra, Willie Akins Quartet featuring Debbie Duncan and Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet.
March 31: Afternoon panel discussion with Danilo Perez; evening concerts with Danilo Perez Trio and Willie Akins Quartet.
