A custom-built Hobbit playhouse, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings book series, will be the headliner item in the ParTee fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
"This is the perfect item for a family with young children or grandparents," said Carolyn Hensarling, the auction campaign manager for the society.
The Hobbit House is valued at $25,000.
About 500 people are expected in attendance for the auction, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 12 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Spectrum Club at Rogers Ranch.
The Hobbit House is a meticulously designed replica, complete with signature round windows and door, a non-functioning fireplace and an interior writing desk. Built with sustainable materials, it incorporates real vegetation on the roof and sides for a cooler interior.
It also uses natural ventilation across the structure and natural lighting through a chimney skylight.
The house will be constructed on-site, and dimensions will be 8 feet by 8 feet square with an interior ceiling height of 6 feet.
The playhouse is a collaborative effort by Kopplow Construction Co., Marmon Mok Architecture, Jaster-Quintanilla and Sherwin Williams Paint Co.
