Last week, we worked on the letter O.  This week we're jumping back a few letters with the letter J.

Some words that begin with the letter J are:  juice, jingle, jar, jet, jolly, joke, jukebox, jelly, jacket, jack-in-the-box, jack o' lantern, jacks, jaguar, jam, jamboree, janitor, jaw, jeep, and juggle.

Menu:

- Juice
- Jello
- Jam

Circle Time:

- Talk about and show pictures of the planet Jupiter, which is the fifth planet from the sun and is the largest planet in the solar system.

Math & Science:

- Hide photos of different animals (include some jungle animals) around the room. Have the children go on a scavenger hunt to find the photos of the jungle animals or letter "J" animals.

- Play a game of Bingo using jungle animal clipart.

Arts & Crafts:

- Create a journal with blank pages that your child can draw or write in. Let them decorate the cover with stickers, crayons, glitter, and other embellishments.

- Create a jukebox using a cardboard box.  Have the children decorate it with pictures, label it with children's music, and add buttons so they can select songs.

- Print coloring pages of jungle animals for the children to color.

- Use paper towel or toilet paper rolls and make a jungle animal such as a zebra or giraffe.

- Make jungle animal masks using paper plates, markers, or paint.

Pretend Play:

- Turn your dramatic play area into a jewelry shop with costume jewelry, home made jewelry displays (using a cardboard box or paper towel roll), a cash register, and play money.

Music & Movement:

- Play some children's jazz music.

- Put a jump rope on the floor in the letter J shape and have the children practice jumping over it.

- Act out the Jack and Jill nursery rhyme.

Books:

- Jingle Bells by Iza Trapani
