The mission of the Liberty Island Media Group is to locate the very best fiction written by conservative, libertarian, and contrarian authors, and then to present it to a mass audience through an online magazine. Liberty Island is currently open for business, featuring dozens of fantastic short stories in genres ranging from mystery to SciFi to humor.
Now, reading that first paragraph, you may very well ask, “What is this conservative fiction?” The most obvious answer is: anything that upsets the dainty, the easily offended, and the politically correct is something you’ll find on Liberty Island. If the perpetually aggrieved feminist points her finger and tells them to “check our privilege” that just means they’re doing their job.
However, most important to the folks over at the Liberty Island Media Group is that they publish great stories which almost anyone can enjoy. That the stories have compelling characters, cool settings, biting humor, and they insist that the stories celebrate the value and dignity of the individual conscience over the supposed glory of the collective. If you agree with the former First Lady that it “takes a village to raise a child,” then you simply won’t like Liberty Island.
Since Liberty Island launched in March 2014, they’ve been overwhelmed by the response. They have gotten great write-ups in major conservative media, launched a very cool partnership with PJ Lifestyle where they exchange commentary on pop culture topics, and have seen tens of thousands of visitors come to their website and hundreds of others contribute short stories, novels, and illustrations. They’ve proven the audience, and demonstrated that their contributors are remarkably talented and commercially viable.
Liberty Island is already in business as an online magazine, but they need to raise additional cash to fund their foray into book publishing. Just how far they can go is based on your support. Here’s a list of some of their goals for this campaign, and what different funding levels will help them to accomplish. With each milestone below, they’ll offer new rewards to our supporters — contributors won’t need to increase their pledge, but they will simply get more goodies added to their previous reward package. As such, Liberty Island is a home and launching pad for the rising right-of-center counterculture. It combines a curated magazine, an open range self-publishing platform, and a commercial book and media division.
Liberty Island’s founders are conservatives but it is by no means a partisan enterprise. Nor do they apply a litmus test to members. Liberty Island’s community is made up of self-described conservative, libertarian, or independent writers and artists. Their views range widely from hardcore libertarian to religious conservative, and everything in between. Seek not here for any kind of ideological conformity. There are plenty of other sites for true believers.
Why the name “Liberty Island” you may ask, well, Liberty Island is the home of the Statue of Liberty, a cherished symbol of American freedom since 1886 and a welcoming beacon to the rest of the world. For the folks at Liberty Island Media Group, Liberty Island is more a state of mind than a physical place: a creative colony where kindred spirits can join and build a new community. An island of freedom in a sea of conformity. A place where the imagination can run free.
This project will only be funded if at least $5,000 is pledged by Wed, Jul 16 2014.
