Let us labor this Labor Day

This weekend marks the 128th celebration of Labor Day here in the United States of America.  Labor Day's roots go back to a time where the nation wanted a holiday to celebrate the hard work and spirit of the American worker.

We now just mark it as a day to rest from our own labor.  Remember to be grateful for the American spirit that was and should be about how "hard work pays off in the end".  "Put in your day's work".

This holiday weekend also marks an end to the summer and a sense of rebirth for the fall and then upcoming holiday season.  Have you been putting something off?  Is there someone you haven't called in months?  Is there some dreaded project that you haven't touched with a ten-foot pole?  Put a little labor into it this weekend and feel the peace and joy that will come from freeing that burden.   The celebrations will be sweeter and the relaxations will be deeper.

  • But I said, "I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the LORD's hand, and my reward is with my God." ~Isaiah 49:4 NIV
  • For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~Ephesians 2:10
