Let the shuttlecocks fly at the Ann Arbor Badminton Open

The quick overhead swing, the whir of the shuttlecock high above the net. One popular Ann Arbor recreational sport is badminton.

Badminton is both fun to play and watch, especially when the talent level is as impressive as it is at the Meri Lou Murray Recreational Center.

For those interested in getting serious about their badminton the Ann Arbor Badminton Open is the place to be. The Open will be held at the Murray Rec. Center on Feb. 26-27. There are four different event options: singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

The fee for the event is $15 for the first event and $10 for each additional event. Sign-up fliers can be found at the Rec. Center or at parks.ewashtenaw.org. Interested participants can register in person at 2960 Washtenaw Avenue at Platt, by fax at (734) 971-2094 or by mail at Washtenaw Community Parks and Recreation Commission P.O. Box 8645 Ann Arbor 48107. The fee can be met through check or charge-Visa or MasterCard.

The following is the format for play: Open ABCD drop flight (any age) and Senior: Open ABCD drop flight (45+) . Each draw is limited to 32 entries and entrants are limited to 6 events. The schedule of play will work this way:

All Open ABCD, Senior: Singles                                                  Starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday
