I know that it can be tough to find the perfect dessert to have for the Fourth of July. Well, I am going to take the treasure hunt out of the picture for you and make your Independence Day run a little more smoothly. If you are feeling more than a little patriotic I came across this nice, little number called, the Red, White, and Blue Strawberry Shortcake.
Thanks to the help of Tara Salerno, here is a particularly delicious recipe for this Fourth of July spectacle of a dessert. Salerno says this cake is a, “spectacular Fourth of July Dessert! Present at night with a couple of sparklers for the best effect. Can make with shortcake mix, too."

Original recipe creates one 9x13-inch cake
One 18.25 ounce package of yellow cake mix
One eight ounce bowl of frozen whipped topping, defrosted
One pint of blueberries, drained and rinsed
Two pints of fresh strawberries, sliced and rinsed
- Make cake based on the package directions and heat in a 9x13 inch pan. Chill entirely.
- Cover cake with whipped topping. Put blueberries in a square in the corner, and organize cut strawberries as lines to create an American flag. Cool in the refrigerator until you serve to your Independence Day guests.
- Preparation Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
- Ready in 50 minutes
