"New York.... New York", sang Frank Sinatra. If he only knew how far New Yorkers have strayed from what made New York so great; Conservative values. New York was where people came to work hard and become self reliant. Proud and determined, it was where individuals (who were out of luck) came to become successful and experience the dream. It was where the poor could become rich quickly unlike nowhere else in the world. Frank Sinatra himself was raised as a democrat, but as an adult he embraced the Republican party. But what does the state of New York have to do to capture that spirit again? It starts with the young.
A simple google search for “G.O.P. internships”, “G.O.P. jobs”, “Conservative jobs”, and “Republican jobs” produces pitiful and shameful results in New York. If young New Yorkers can't get involved in the conservative party or find exciting careers within the party, chances are the liberal party will solicit them and possibly win them over, many times skewing facts. When a political party takes students under their wings and shows them what the party is about, the inevitable occurs. The party will have the support of loyal young voters; constituents to spread the word and members to possibly pass the torch to in the future.
When googling with words like “G.O.P.” & “careers” together, instead of getting opportunities within the Republican party, google produces results that have nothing to do with politics. Instead, the results are careers that involve having knowledge of G.O.P. (Gross operating profit). Is this satirical or sad? Under google searches with words like "politics, NY and careers", results like "All things Democrat" and "Progressive type jobs" appear. So much for choice.
What is the New York Republican State committee doing to help young people get acquainted with the Republican party? The old expression is “ people don’t care to know unless they know you care”. What are businesses with right leaning values doing to help? What are Republican politicians with big mouths doing about it? They are all talk. What are the Republican clubs in colleges doing about it? Although in New York, it’s fair to say many college Republican clubs are not as active because members are met with stifling college administrative excuses as to why they could not being funded or allowed to open a new chapter.
Once the Republican party loses the young vote, then it’s only a matter of time before they lose the adult vote. New York is plagued with liberal leaning media all across the TV screens, computers and onion skins they like to call newspapers; a far cry from news. There is clearly a marketing problem. Why shouldn’t there be more registered Republicans aged 19-22? Democrats have for so long declared victory by hiding their past skeletons in the closet and making false accusations at the Republicans. Everyone knows the Republicans fought and won to give women their deserved right to vote. Everyone knows the Republicans fought and won to dismantle slavery and give African Americans their God given right to freedom and to be able to vote. Everyone knows Republicans fought and continue to fight so Americans can keep more of their paycheck and pay less to government bureaucrats. Right? These are facts by the way.
New York is a large diverse state and it’s big enough to house both popular parties. Just wondering when the young NY elephants will get this party started…
