Let's get this party started!

In bringing this first month of 2013 to a close, and in the wake of the reality that the major night venues have closed, let's take a glimpse at what we can do to keep the proverbrial party going.

There are still a few small bars, lovingly known as hole-in-the-wall venues, open. Among these is the bar crawl along Franklin Street which is located conveniently just to the West of downtown Evansville.

Want another option? That would be what we call...party at home. BYOB and all of that. Yes, invite some friends over, go to your local liquor store, and have your social event and night of partying right in your own home. After all, home is where the heart is.

Going forward, I predict this will be a rather lackluster year for the Evansville nightlife as it has been known for the past decade or so. Whether that is good or bad remains to be seen.

I believe we can actually build our nightlife back up by lighting our social fires within our own circles. This could result in taking larger groups of people out to currently still open bars, or some of these groups open their own new venues. Either way, business can start to flourish again.

Worst case scenario, we start to spend money at the liquor stores and pay Vectren more money for electricity as we get to know our current friends on a more personal level in our own backyards. We can also meet new people, adding to our social circle and becoming the most popular guy or girl in town through operating within our most intimate settings.

So, for 2013, not all is lost. We still have our favorite party buddies. We still have our favorite bar games. We can bring all of those to our own wet bar...and we don't have to pay cover. Enjoy 2013, live it up, and let us know where the hottest...private parties are for the year. Maybe we'll visit them and add them to our list of hot spots for Evansville!
