Let Jesus silence your condemners

A Daily Word from the Word for Tuesday, August 19, 2014

“When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, ‘Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.’” – John 8:10-11

This woman was literally fighting for her life. She was in the grips of her angry accusers who were ready to stone her for committing adultery. With rocks in hand, ready to pitch them into her flesh and each hoping that theirs would carry the fatal blow, this fuming mob of hypocrites brought this adulteress to Jesus trying to get Him to agree with their accusations, which carried a punishment of death by stoning.

These very men, who were ready to pass sentence on this accused, were the same miscreants who had committed these sinful acts with her! Isn’t that just like the devil? He will entice you, commit the crime with you, and then publicize your crime for all to see as he hauls you to the law.

But instead, Jesus knelt down and wrote in the sand. What He wrote stung each of their consciences to the point where they dropped their stones and walked away. And this is where our study verse begins!

The Greek word for “raised” as used in this verse is anakupto (pr. an-ak-oop-to), which means “in the sense of reversal, to unbend” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). And each instance of “condemn” and “condemned” comes from the same word and meaning, katakrino (pr. kat-ak-ree-no), which is “to judge against, sentence.”

The law requires justice, so justice must be satisfied. You can either satisfy your violation of the law, as a sinner, with your own life or you can call on the One Who gave His life for you so that you don’t have to! Jesus the Christ Himself proclaims “Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). 1 John 2:2 sets the record straight, as it wipes the walls of Heaven clean with its proclamation: “And He [Jesus] Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”

It is paramount to see that Jesus “raised” Himself before pronouncing His sentence upon this adulterous woman. When we raise the Word of God, Who is Jesus Christ, above our accusers, then every accusation of the enemy is reversed and unraveled, as God Himself nullifies the sentence of the devil and enters a verdict on our behalf (if we have received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior) of “INNOCENT BY VIRTUE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST!”

Who is condemning you, my sister? Which people and things are throwing stones at you, my brother? Are you listening to the accusers of your past? Or are you entertaining the lies that the devil is speaking to you this day? Are you accepting the sentence of unworthiness, not good enough, will never amount to anything, unlovable, not pretty enough, or doesn’t have what it takes, that the world is trying to pin on you?

Then it’s time to silence your accusers by raising up the Living Word of God which will cause those filthy fingers to drop their sentencing stones and run away in defeat. And when you look up to see whose left standing, it’s the mutilated back of the Savior that you are left to gaze upon, as He takes your hand and says “I died for this one; therefore, neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Father, thank You for sending Your Son into the world to die for us so that we may be saved. We sing along with the Chorus of John 3:16-17, which resonates throughout the universe “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” In Jesus Name, we thank You Savior, for snatching us out of the hands of Satan, redeeming us from the curse, and for giving us life and life abundantly. Amen and Amen.

Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to reject the condemnation of the world, and accept the unconditional gift of Salvation from the Savior. Choose to refuse the sentence of your accusers and silence them with the Risen Word. And continue to fight the good fight of disarming every witness against you with the Blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony; for God, your Righteous Judge, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!

God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement.
