A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, June 9, 2014
“And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”- Deuteronomy 31:8
Do you know that, as a believer redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ, you have God Himself Who goes before you? As a child of the Most High King, Your Daddy, the Creator of the Universe, goes before you on your behalf!
In this verse, the Name for “the Lord” is the Hebrew Yhovah (pr. Yeh-ho-vaw). The people of the Old Testament revered God so profoundly that they dare not even spell His Name completely out (omitting the “e”) for fear that they desecrate His Holy, Perfect, and Matchless Name! “Yhovah” refers to God as “The Lord, The Self-existent and Eternal God.”
There are many names for God, as He is all-encompassing. The Holy God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (present everywhere simultaneously), and omnipotent (all-powerful). God is “Elohim,” God The Creator; “El Elyon,” God The Most High; “El-Roi,” God Who Sees; “El Shaddai,” God Almighty, God The All-Sufficient One, God the Breasted One; “Jehovah Jireh,” The Lord Who Provides; “Jehovah Nissi,” The Lord our Banner, our Protector; “Jehova Rapha,” The Lord Who Heals; “Jehovah Shammah,” The Lord is with us; “Jehovah Shalom,” The Lord of Peace; and “Attiq Yomin,” The Ancient of Days, just to name a few. These names barely scratch the surface of Who God is, as God is unsearchable with no limit to His depths. There are hundreds of known Names for God, and a remaining infinite number of unknown Names for The Unlimited One.
I felt the leading of God’s Holy Spirit to list some of these names, so that you would at least have a glimpse into the truth that God is our Everything. He is our Beginning and our End, our First and our Last (Revelation 22:13), our Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Hebrews 13:8). It is the God of yesterday that has already gone before us in our tomorrow. It is the Ancient of Days Who has already spoken into us our destiny and holds our future in His hands. It is this God who goes before us!
The Hebrew word for “goes” as used in this verse is halak (pr. haw-lak), and means “be conversant, lead, march, spread, surely” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). What a wonderful image of encounter this word evokes! The impression of talking and walking with your Heavenly Father, wrapped up in the protection of His conversation, as The Great “I AM” leads us and marches ahead, spreading Himself over every uneven terrain, and over every wile of the enemy.
When Yhovah goes “before” us, He is paneh (pr. paw-neh), which is His face going before us, His countenance, His favor, His employment, and His endurance preparing the way. We don’t have to face the enemy directly, because the enemy has to come face-to-face with God Almighty! Anyone who tries to come against one of the Father’s sons and daughters has to go through Him first! Because God is for us, no one can stand against us! (Romans 8:31). What a magnificent promise of assured victory!
Sadly, too many of God’s children don’t obtain the victory, because they leave God behind; rather than letting God go first. Or they let fear go before them rather than faith. Perhaps letting doubt jump out front while leaving belief on the stoop, or letting discouragement highjack encouragement.
Is this you, my brother? Do you find yourself nodding in agreement, my sister? So what are you going to do about this, family? Hey, I have an idea! Let’s backtrack to “In the beginning” and call on the One who called us into being. Who better than the Father of us all, Who has already carved us in the palms of His mighty Hands! (Isaiah 49:16).
Father, thank You for always being willing to go before us on our behalf. Most Mighty God, we repent for every time we left You behind, or went ahead of You. We are nothing without You, and we cannot do anything in and of our own strength and ability. We need You, Faithful Shield, to always go before us. We say as Moses said “we will not go anywhere unless you go before me” (Exodus 33:15). In Jesus Name, we thank You that we will never go anywhere that you haven’t gone first or authorized us to go. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to walk in the steps that God has ordered for you (Psalm 37:23). Seek the Lord daily to guide you and to go before you on your behalf. Ask and walk in the good paths, which are the ancient paths (Jeremiah 6:16). And continue to fight the good fight of staying behind; for God, your Front and Center, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement.
