Let freedom ring a tribute to the 4th.

Everything we as Americans are stems from this day of our independence. Our forefathers came here to flee tyranny and religious persecution. Together they committed themselves to create a system of government that would be the model that the entire world would aspire to emulate. One only needs to read the federalist papers to understand that regardless of disagreements, fighting, and egos they at the end of the day were committed to make the blueprint to the best form of government ever devised by mankind. Some, even many say they were divinely inspire. That was then and this is now, some question that our days of sovereignty are numbered. Without a doubt we no longer share the title of best at everything we once did.

What made us once great was faith, commitment, hard work, and a can do anything spirit. Today we complain, blame our government, and feel the world owes us for being American. Then nothing was stopping our forefathers from forming a Republic of epic potential. Nothing stopped the pioneers who loaded a covered wagon with their family and everything they owned and crossed the country to seek a better life. They trusted in their God and crossed the country risking their lives to Indian attacks, the elements, and the unknown. They didn’t wait for a hand out, they risked it all in the pursuit of, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” When we were blindsided much like 9-11 and Pearl Harbor we united and rallied to victory over the Japanese and the Nazi’s. We saw NASA rise to the challenge that our president Kennedy promised by landing a man on the moon before the end of the 60’s. For a very short period post 9-11 we were one, but that faded back into our Divided States of America.

We as Americans should be on this day compelled to re read the Declaration of Independence and take special note of the all the words, especially those that refer to a deity like, “Laws of nature, Nature’s God, Creator.” They were quite careful to exclude religion from our blueprint but passionately spiritual to include God. There is a clear difference between separation of church and state which they condoned and separation of God and state which our entire existence was framed around not just our country. Even the preamble of our Constitution mentions the blessings of a deity, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

This is the birthday of our country, “The United States of America.” What we have forgotten is the United part of being committed to being Americans first instead of some other labels like party, race, and beliefs. We can go forward and do the right things devoid of label pressure or we can begin writing our epitaph to complete our life cycle as a nation.

We are blessed to be celebrating the 4th, let’s make sure we don’t see our last. As a good friend said, "Every one of us every day should be a walking, talking Declaration of Independence."
