For many people, Lent starts with Ash Wednesday and for each subsequent Friday leading up to Easter meat is not an option. However, fish of any kind is allowed so a place like Roe Restaurant & Fish Market is a great option during the season of Lent.
Relatively new to Belmont Shore, Roe provides the freshest and best quality of fish in the area. Currently, there are a few tables set up outside and they have a handful of seats indoors but it is more of a take-out place until the full restaurant opens next door.
Roe offers a wide array of amazing options that will provide anyone a good amount of diversity over the upcoming several weeks. There are about a dozen different fish that can be selected for a taco or burrito. The mahi mahi and ahi poke are highly recommended. For something a little different there is the lobster bahn mi, a take on the Vietnamese sandwich that explodes with flavor and is filled with a generous amount of lobster.
Sticking with more traditional options, any of the fish can be served as the main entrée. Roe also offers fish & chips for something a tad heartier. On cold nights, there are several soup options including chowder and bisque. Finally, for something a bit smaller, the appetizer menu has a great selection from popcorn shrimp to ceviche to oysters.
Roe is a great addition to Long Beach serving very fresh fish and an interesting menu that goes beyond just a fish plate. This is an excellent option any time of year but especially now during Lent when fish sandwiches from fast food restaurants get old.
