Lesenko to run ‘Canadiana’ Funny Car

When the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series begins qualifying on Thursday, February 14th at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Todd Lesenko’s Funny Car will sport a decidedly Canadian paint scheme.

Lesenko’s Worsham Racing Dodge Charger will be painted red and white with a huge maple leaf – both representing the Canadian flag – with Fountain Tire, Lesenko’s own company, as sponsor. Lesenko, who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has been reaching out to numerous Canadian companies in efforts to run a condensed schedule in 2013 of approximately 10 to 12 races.

“Growing up, I always took inspiration from what guys like Gordie Bonin and Terry Capp accomplished for Canadians in drag racing,” said Lesenko on NHRA.com. “Last season, I was so amazed at how many times Canadian fans came up to me when I was signing autographs and told me how proud they were to have a Canadian involved in the fastest motorsport on earth. All of that has made me very determined to give Canada’s drag racing fan base something very real and special to cheer for and support again. Canadian drag racing fans are as dedicated as they come out there. So, simply put – they deserve this.”

The car (which can be seen at the above link) is scheduled to run the first two races of the season, at Pomona and Phoenix.
