Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum presented the Oscar for best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling during last evening’s 85th Annual Academy Awards to the hair and makeup team from “Les Misérables”, Feb. 24.
The Oscar nominees for best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling, listed below, the often-unsung heroes of movie making, were announced earlier in January.
- “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”: The hair and makeup team of Peter Swords King, Rick Findlater and Tami Lane have brought to life Tolkien’s world of Middle-Earth. This was King’s second Oscar nomination having won for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and the second for Lane who won an Academy Award for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”. This was Rick Findlater’s first Oscar nomination.
- “Hitchcock”: Up for best Makeup and Hairstyling in a movie are Howard Berger, Peter Montagna and Martin Samuel for their transformation of Anthony Hopkins into the irreplaceable Alfred Hitchcock and the rest of the cast of actors into the reflections of Hitchcock’s movies and past. This was Berge’s second Academy Award nomination of which he won for “The Chronicles of Narnia” and the first for Peter Montagna. This marked Martin Samuel’s third Oscar nomination in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category.
- “Les Misérables”: Lisa Westcott, who was nominated for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar twice before, and Julie Dartnell recreated the conflicting styles of peasant and elite within 19th century France. This had been Julie Dartnell’s first Oscar nomination.
Last night’s win marks the first Oscar for both Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell, the makeup and hairstyling team of “Les Misérables”.
