The multi-Juno and Grammy winner posted the clip on Aug. 27 to his official YouTube page. Propelled by piano, bass guitar and percussion, the simple three chord arrangement highlights Cohen's husky baritone as he explores familiar themes of hope, despair, grief and joy in the three-minute-30-second-long lyric video.
The legendary Canadian singer-songwriter officially announced the album's forthcoming release last week after news leaked earlier this month at a fan convention in Dublin, Ireland. Popular Problems will hit shelves on Sept. 23, which falls two days after his 80th birthday.
The album will be Cohen's 13th studio effort and follow up his 2012 multi-award winning album, Old Ideas. Popular Problems will be released on the Columbia label and is available for pre-order here. Fans who pre-order the album digitally will receive an instant download of “Almost Like The Blues”.
Its unclear whether or not Cohen will support Popular Problems with a tour, though he has already indicated that he will not be performing any shows in 2014. He wrapped up his "Old Ideas World Tour" with a nine date run, which ended on Dec. 21, 2013 at Auckland's Vector Arena.
