What has happened to Leona Lewis?

Following her win on UK's X Factor in 2006, the singer exploded onto the U.S. scene with her emotional singles "Bleeding Love" and "Better In Time" off her debut album entitled Spirit. She released the follow up Echo in 2009 with the lead single "Happy" and then her career took an unfortunate nosedive. The very talented singer attempted with the follow up dubstep/electronica album Glassheart, but the album failed to get noticed here in the states. The album strayed away from Lewis' signature style love ballad anthems.

Now Lewis is planning her next role in---film. That's right you read right. Lewis recently was featured in a role on Walking On Sunshine, a relatively new musical romance that debuted this year.

The singer turned actress told the UK's Sunday Express Magazine that, "I don't want it to be like 'Oh, she's a musician and she's a bit famous so that's why she got the part.' I have friends who are actors. They go for millions of auditions and they're having classes all the time, and in no way would I want to take that away from them. I want to do the exact same thing and work really hard at it."

Lewis's career spans across 8 years. She is the best selling act to ever come out of the singing talent competition TV Program, the X Factor, has sold 20 million albums worldwide, and is a three time Grammy nominee. Lewis is noted for her singing style and mezzo-soprano vocal range that spans four octaves. She has had classical singing training as well. She was quoted as saying that she would love to do an all classical album as well due to her vocal style.

Lewis just split from Simon Cowell's infamous label Syco Records and has now signed with Island Records hoping to release a new album this year. She has been in the studio with several producers including DJ Poet.
