Sepetember 28 was International Rabbit Day. In honor of International Rabbit Day singer Leona Lewis and actor Owain Yeoman teamed up for the campaign 'Bunnies are for Hugging, Not Hurting in Cosmetics Tests.' The campaign was in support of the Humane Society International's 'Be Cruelty-Free' campaign in Canada.
The campaigns featured the stars cuddling and posing with rabbits. 'Mentalist' star Owain Yeoman was photographed wearing a shirt supporting the Humane Society International's 'Be Cruelty-Free' campaign while posing with a rescued rabbit named Nibbles. Leona Lewis also donated a picture of herself with a rabbit named Melrose.
Leona Lewis and Owain Yeoman were proud to work with the Humane Society International on this campaign to spread awareness of animal testing in cosmetics. Rabbits are one of the most common animals to be utilized in these painful tests. Rabbits do not have tear ducts so they cannot cry no matter how much pain they are feeling and wash out harmful irritants. This is why rabbits take the brunt of animal testing that involves dripping chemicals into the eyes. This sort of testing is outdated and unnecessary as tests that do not require animals including EpiDerm and EpiSkin are available. The Humane Society International is working very hard to help spread awareness and eliminate animal testing especially in cosmetics.
