After a three game winning streak, Leon FC fell 1-0 to Veracruz FC at the Nou Camp during week 10 of the Clausura 2014 of La Liga MX. Leon had thrashed their last three opponents outscoring them 9-2 sending the panzas verdes to the top positions on the league table.

Uruguayan Matias Britos missed a shot from the penalty spot in the 64th minute. While La Fiera maintained their offensive style, they were also holding back. The team is scheduled to take on Emelec in Ecuador in Copa Libertadores during midweek action. Carlos “Gulit” Peña played 82 minutes, he had travelled to Atlanta midweek to play with Mexico against Nigeria. However, starters Rafael Marquez, Luis Montes, and goalkeeper William Yarbrough were not considered for the game.

Despite winning the game, the red sharks were a mystery on the pitch. They played disoriented and confused. It was a game that Leon could easily have won were it not for their cautious play. The goal came in the 90th minute of play. Luis Sanchez took a powerful shot to beat the back-up keeper giving Veracruz the 1-0.

Toluca ready for CONCACAF

Toluca FC defeated Puebla FC 3-0 at the Nemesio Diez Stadium playing on a Friday in the evening for the first time in years. The chorizeros return to winning after their loss to league leader Cruz Azul. The Red Devils are preparing to take on Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes on Mar. 11, 2014 in CONCACAF Champions League action.

Brazilian Wilson Mathias, Raul Nava and Carlos Esquivel scored for Toluca. But the revelation on the pitch was Isaac Brizuela who continues to demonstrate his game. Brizuela is one of the players that Miguel “Piojo” Herrera is considering for the trip to Brazil this summer.

With the win Toluca remains in the 2nd position on the league table and takes a 7 point lead over their closest rival, Pumas UNAM.

Friday’s games:

Monarcas Morelia 3, Pumas UNAM 1

Club Tijuana 2, Chivas 0
