Lenten season meanings and important dates (Video)

Lenten season is a period of 40 days, not counting Sundays, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 13 through Easter, March 31, 2013. Lent is a time of self-reflection and strengthening our personal relationship with Christ by praying, fasting, self-denial, almsgiving, and charity as we prepare for Jesus’ death and His resurrection.

Lenten (Lent) words and meaning

Almsgiving – Almsgiving is closely related with fasting. Whatever a Christian gives up, the money saved should go to the needy. It should be given to Church, to the missions, or to a worthy cause.

Charity – Giving to those in need of help, food or money.

Fasting – Abstaining from food in penance of sin.

Praying – A silent or spoken petition made to God.

Self-Denial – Sacrifice of one's own desires or interests.
