Scripture reading: Mark 3:31, 4:9
Think of all the lifer lessons, insights of life and wisdom you were taught in school and in church school as you grew up. There were some things you will never forget, while there are some things you had forgotten by the time you were tested that same week.
Jesus tells us, in parable, of the four ways the Word of God is heard and applied in each of us:
- Sometimes wisdom is not heard because the listener is not ready to hear.
- Sometimes wisdom is heard loud and clear – but is soon forgotten because it has not been truly internalized.
- Sometimes wisdom is heard but forgotten soon after because too much advice is offered at one time and there is too much to be heard.
- But in those times that wisdom is heard, internalized and remembered, it can create goodness beyond imagination.
As Christians, we are told to spread the Word of God. But it is important to remember that not all are ready to hear, not all will internalize the wisdom, and not all will remember because they hear too much. But many seeds are sown and some ‘yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some a hundred.”
Pray today that you will be able and ready to hear when wisdom is sent your way.
