Sadly, we live in a world full of self-made gods and 'utopian' nations. Consequently, temptations come threefold: to comfort, to power, and to the worship of false gods. Persecution thrives, therefore, when men and women of faith fail to live their lives, and follow their consciences, as directed by the gospel, by Catholic-Christian Tradition, and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Darkness thrives on disobedience unto death.
Light and Truth break through, on the horizon, in repentance and grace.
Meanwhile, in this spiritual battle of grace versus deception, it's getting tougher and tougher to choose Life in the Light and Truth of Christ.
"Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?” Genesis 2:7-9, 3:1-7
Satan may not have fiery red skin, hoofs, and a tail...but he (or she?) is certainly alive and well in our postmodern world. He no longer tempts us with apples from the tree, but continues his deadly work, nonetheless, with the same old lies.
'Did God really say that?' has become an art form for the Satan of progressive Catholic, and Christian, biblical scholarship. Faulty biblical scholarship and shoddy Christian history has produced a 'legion' of misinformed, malicious, progressive Catholics, and Christians, hell-bent on disobeying, and discrediting the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
'You certainly will not die,' has become the mantra of disobedient 'nuns on the bus,' Catholic-pro-choice-politicians--and those who voted for them, and a generation of baptized Christians who live the contraceptive, promiscuous, and secularized lifestyle--sans Jesus Christ. No longer is 'sin' a reality which leads to spiritual death (mortal sin); life for the progressive, secularized Catholic, and Christian, is a self-defined entity--owned, used, abused and terminated at their own whim.
"A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. Cast me not out from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me." Psalm 51:3-6, 12-13, 17
The devil gives contraception in hopes that sexual pleasure and freedom from responsibility will hook the victim to the addiction of comfort and convenience. Jesus gives the birth of a baby with unrepeatable beauty and dignity, along with the dignity of parental responsibility, in order to offer the freedom of Life in the Truth and Light of Jesus Christ.
The devil desires in us an impure heart and a waffling spirit.
Jesus offers us His Sacred, and pierced Heart, and the Holy Spirit.
"And the gift is not like the result of the one who sinned." Romans 5:12-19
Seducing you, distracting you, tickling you, tantalizing you, shocking you, numbing you, all the devil can give you is a cheap parlor trick which hides the shackles he has planned for you in the nothingness of death. Jesus, on the other hand, does not deceive...He offers Life, Truth, Light, purpose, dignity, faith, hope, charity, and all goodness--as it is intended for us by God...in, and through the Cross.
Paradoxically, this Cross is Mercy and Life itself.
"At this, Jesus said to him, 'Get away, Satan! It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.'” Matthew 4:1-11
In the end, Satan and his minions (progressive, secularist, and anti-Christian they are), tempt us to comfort, to power, and to idolatry. But Jesus counters this with Light and Truth: (1) We are more than animals. We need more than bread, since we have the Holy Spirit within us. (2) God alone is holy! We are not God, but we are beloved children of the Father. (3) The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the One, and only, God worthy of our worship.
