The Lenovo MIIX 2 series announced at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show is a very nice mix of tablet and laptop, or as Lenovo calls it, a convertible. The detachable keyboard dock allows you to quickly switch from laptop mode to tablet mode.

There is a 10 inch and 11 inch model, and the Lenovo MIIX 2 product spec sheets show that both models come with "Genuine Windows 8.1." Both the 10 inch and 11 inch models have a 1920x1200 full HD display and have up to 8 hours of battery life.

According to the Lenovo press release the 10-in model of the Lenovo MIIX 2 starts at $499, and will be available beginning in March. The the 11-in Lenovo MIIX 2 starts at $699 and will be available starting in April. With the release date still a few months away, the full details on model options are not clearly stated on the Lenovo website.

Maybe you have been on the fence waiting to buy a tablet. If you like the features of the Microsoft Surface tablets, but were not quite sure they were worth the price, the Lenovo MIIX 2 series may win you over.

If you compare the specs on the Lenovo MIIX 2 series to the Microsoft Surface 2 tablets, you will see that they are very similar. The the Lenovo MIIX 2 series has the full version of Windows 8.1 on both models, (unlike the lower end Surface 2 tablets that have Windows RT). Also keep in mind, that at $499 for the 10-in model, there's no extra cost for the keyboard, (unlike the lower end Surface 2 tablets that cost $449, not including the touch cover keyboard) .

If you are looking for a Windows tablet, the Lenovo MIIX 2 series is a very attractive alternative to the Microsoft Surface 2 tablets.
