Anyone who knows anything about New Mexico wrestling has more then likely heard of the Lovato's. Lenny Lovato Sr., Albuquerque's West Mesa High wrestling coach, has made quite a name for himself in the community. But it's the younger Lovato's time to shine.
Lenny "The Godfather" Lovato is quickly becoming a rising star in the MMA scene. With a record of eight wins and no losses to blemish, he is moving up through the ranks as a 155 lightweight fighter. Three of his wins have come by TKO, which shows that even though he comes from a wrestling background, his has he hands to put his opponents to sleep. Lovato trains and coaches at Albuquerque Kickboxing as well as training with the infamous Greg Jackson of Jackson's MMA. This training is helping to set Lovato up for his most difficult challenge yet.
When "The Godfather" steps into the cage Friday, he will take on the former WEC lightweight Champion Gabe Ruediger. Ruediger was on The Ultimate Fighter 5 before having to leave the house after being unable to make weight for his match against Corey Hill. His record of 16-5 includes matches against notable fighters Hermes Franca and Melvin Guillard.
Lovato and Ruediger will battle this Friday, July 9 for the vacant lightweight Tachi Palace Fights title. Both fighters have experience working on the ground, with Ruediger holding a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The match will be an exciting match as both men look to take the belt and add a win to their record. For Lenny Lovato this match will bring the belt to New Mexico and keep the Lovato name in everyone's mouth.
Tachi Palace Fights "Stars and Strikes" takes place this Friday at Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore, CA.
