'LENNONYC' writer-director 'thrilled' with Peabody Award for documentary

Michael Epstein, who was writer and director for the PBS "American Masters" presentation "LENNONYC," which last week was honored with a 2011 Peabody Award, told BEATLES EXAMINER by email Wednesday he was thrilled about the honor.

"I'm thrilled that 'LENNONYC' was awarded a Peabody. It's a reminder of how fortunate I was to be allowed to make a film about John and Yoko for 'American Masters,' and with a remarkable team whose creative efforts made 'LENNONYC' such a success," he told us.

"LENNONYC" examines John Lennon's life in his later years through the observations of his widow, Yoko Ono, and many of his friends and close associates. Those interviewed in the film besides Ono included author Jon Wiener, photographer Bob Gruen. Adam Ippolito and Gary Van Scyoc of Elephant's Memory, TV talk show host Dick Cavett, May Pang, drummer Jim Keltner, musician Klaus Voormann and "Double Fantasy" producer Jack Douglas.
