It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
It felt rushed, as if it tried to tell too much in the 1.5 hours. It really only hit the high spots that any fan already knows. There was very little depth to John's character - adds nothing at all to his story or his legacy. Generally, a waste of time.
your silly!
Just watched "Lennon Naked" on PBS...extremely depressing...not sure how much was true or how much was the writer's interpretation...but is made me very sad for John and especially for Julian...but I would be anyway...there is a LOT that was embellished by the writer...some of it is based on speculation and not fact. You must not take everything literally about John. Sure, he had his faults but...who doesn't? Not taking up for him..just stating a fact. The drugs played a BIG roll in his life for those 7 years when he did not see Julian. Jules was probably better off NOT seeing his father under the influence of all of those drugs. Not a good situation for a child to be in..with his father or not...
To call it bad would be an understatement. Historical inaccuracies, and Peggy's right--LOTS of embellishment. I could go on, I'll spare you....
A depressing one-dimensional view of a man who was obviously had a multi-dimensional personality--and not all of it gloomy and bitter. As others have said, this was a blatant embellishment, and not a good one at that.
Awful...as usual.
It was, uh ........ oookay but barely. Some of the problems I had was the monotonous tone of the actor's voice, actor looked older, and the inaccurate facts.
Tuned out after 15 minutes. Awful. 'John, I want to hold your hand'.
Come on!!!
Ugh! It was a soul-less, humour-less piece of speculative crap. An hour and a half of my life I won't get back. Give Eccleston the razor blade, he deserves it!
SO much was wrong with this.
Awful. Humorless, angry, totally unsatisfying. Stupendously dreadful. Another in a long line of TV movies to portray John Lennon as a humorless prick, as a friend of mine said. Shall I go on? Ugh. Christopher Eccleston is a pretty good actor but you wouldn't know it from this miserable excuse for a film -- let's just hope that choosing to play John Lennon in this way isn't a career-killing move for him. And I only watched the last half-hour of the thing...I can only imagine what my comments would be if I'd seen it all!! Yikes!
Actually, Susan, I didn't think the beginning was as bad as the rest of it. John was a Beatle as in AHDN. The bitterness accelerated as the movie went on.
I caught only 5 minutes and couildn't stand it. Awful. and as it is fictional...
and what was up with 1968 looking John flying off to 1971 NYC...
Lost 90 minutes of my time last night watching this disasterous piece of garbage! Who authorized this to be made? Let me guess ONO??
They always have problems finding actors with the right British accents along with their phyical appearences and the the Lennon actor was all wrong. To me he had the anger, but it was overactted. The rest of the Beatles (especially the Mccartney actor) was just blah...like they were just reading there lines.
The costumes were all wrong. In the '69-70 era,Why was Lennon without his beard? Why wasn't his cropped short for the primal scream in the 1970 era? The scene where John & Yoko took there famous nude photos for there TWO VIRGINS LP,why wasn't that in the scene when they were doing there avant-garde music?
Enough said about this junk!
I thought. Christopher Eccleston was way too old to play John...I don't know how old he is, but he looks to be in his early 40's which did not match John's age of 24-29 as the period of time the film focused on. He isn't a bad actor, the age thing just really bothered me.
this film makes me wonder if Micheal David Chapman wrote it.. you should take careful time in researching who he REALLY was and quit focusing on the negative aspects of his life you sod!
PS: LONG LIVE HIS LEGEND!!! screw anyone speaking for a dead man, whoever thinks history is something to toy with can go stick a red hot iron rod up their arses!
Boring. But the sets and props like his psychedelic car were nice.
i'm sorry ... but it was so bad
Masterpiece Theater? Ha! Lennon Naked was a piece of something alright, but not master. Old actor with too cruel face, a joke playing the young Beatle Lennon. If you want to see Lennon as a heartless and cruel buffoon, this is what you want to see. Mixed with dime store Freudian analysis -- "It's all mommy's fault" -- to add a "serious" layer to tripe. A waste of effort by the film makers and by me in watching the sad -- and often chronologically confusing -- mess.
I thought Chris did an excellent job. A lot of what John went through has been well documented. The stuff with his dad especially, was moving. It was better then I expected.
Film was very dark, actor choosen to play John was too old and too hard looking. Even the way Cynthia and her mother were protrayed was , in my opinion, very wrong. Too bad that people who do not know better will be left thinking this is the truth.
It sucked. Yes, John was acerbic and acidic, but there was another side to him and that tender, loving side wasn't shown.
It wasn't just bad; it was AWFUL, as I had a feeling it would be.
But as a Beatles fan, I still watched it because I felt like I had to.
That'll teach me to trust my instincts.
This worthless piece of crap is wrong on so many levels. What a load of garbage. Absolutely awful. Show's Lennon as a bitter, angry, one-dimensional person, with little to no wit. Did Albert Goldman ‘ghost write’ this tripe?
Not very good. Were some events portrayed out of order? The time line for Epstein's death seemed wrong in regards to other events going on in the film.
I really enjoyed this movie and how Lennon was portrayed in it. I thought it was put together really well. For someone with a passing interest in Lennon, but is a fan of rock, this is the film to see. It stands up to films like "Stoned Alone" and is in the same league as "The Doors" movie, all which take the same angle as "Lennon Naked". It works really well in this light, and I wish you all could see that. There are plenty other Lennon movies but I hadn't quite seen one like this to highlight his troubled angry side so concisely and I really really am glad for it. This is more in the light of how I imagine I might come across Lennon if I met him in a situation during that time. I thought it was great the actor was older, it was almost as if 40-something year old Lennon was playing his young self.
If you're not concerned with scientific detail this is very watchable. Excellent way to glean what it would have been like to been a close buddy of John's during that time.
Poor John. Not here to defend himself. People can put words in his mouth. Movies can be made like this. The great songs he created during this time can be overlooked. It also doesn't have to be pointed out that John was in his twenties during most of this. His love for Julian and the other Beatles can be forgotten. Only his faults can be offered. Poor John. Not here to defend himself...
I thought it was awful, horrendous, bizarre and not enjoyable at all. John was portrayed as a mean, heartless SOB and while we know that he had every right to be bitter at being abandoned by both parents, he wasn't as cold as this movie made him out to be. Glad PBS showed it first so I don't have to waste my money on the DVD. This is one I will NOT be adding to my collection.
