An all-star cast of local and national acts are coming together for Philadelphia's first 'City of Love Festival' which benefits Broad Street Ministry's "hospitality initiative" and meal programs for hungry homeless individuals. Created and hosted by John Francis and presented by The Philadelphia Folksong Society, the City of Love Festival is a rallying point for Philadelphia's musical community to come together, raise our voices and rock out to raise some much needed funds and much needed awareness to address the hunger and homelessness pandemic in this, our City of Brotherly Love. In the coming year, BSM will be serving as many as 50,000 three course meals in a dignified setting for Philadelphia's hungry and those experiencing the trauma of homelessness. BSM's holistic endeavors include psychiatric and medical attention, as well as sheltering and serving food to several hundred men and women through the coldest months.
WXPN officially welcomes the festival, with a line-up that reads like a 'who's hot' in Philly! Sean Hoots (of Hoots & Hellmouth), The Districts, John Francis & the Midnight Choir, Kuf Knotz (GRANDLUX), Sharon Little, Zach Djanikian, Foxhound, Ross Bellenoit, Ryan Tennis & the Clubhouse Band, Blayer Pointdujour & the Rockers Galore, Levee Drivers, Caleb Hawley, The Lawsuits, Kwesi Kankam, Sunshowers, and in the coming weeks surprise special guests performers and co-hosts will be announced!
Award-winning singer/songwriter, John Francis, who has just returned home to his native Philadelphia after living in Nashville for a few years, extends the invitation:
"Come be a part of 'the City of Love Festival', enjoy the bands and the knowledge that your ticket and your participation in this event is helping to extend food, shelter, medical attention and most importantly, dignity to people among us in the most need. I am very proud of my friends in the musical community; artists, bands, radio hosts, venue bookers, and everyone involved in this event. I am proud of Broad Street Ministry for their deep commitment as well. Proud of us for coming together to do our part in making homeless and poor people invisible no more. Come be a part of this movement!"
