Friday morning, family members and friends gathered together in Manhattan to mourn the death of jazz singer, actress Lena Horne. The ceremony took place at St. Ignatius Loyola on the Upper East Side.
Vanessa Williams, Dionne Warwick, Walter Mosley, and designer B. Michael were just a few of the people in attendance along with former NYC major David Dinkins and Governor David Patterson.
Sunday, jazz singer Lena Horne died at New York Presbyterian Hospital, she was 92.

Horne was frustrated with the public’s focus on her race.
"I was always battling the system to try to get to be with my people. Finally, I wouldn't work for places that kept us out. ... It was a damn fight everywhere I was, every place I worked, in New York, in Hollywood, all over the world," she said to Brian Lanker who published it in his book "I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America."
In 2002, during Halle Berry’s acceptance speech for the Oscar for best actress she said: "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. ... It's for every nameless, faceless woman of color who now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."
Kevin Coburn from Salt Lake City, Utah said, “Lena Horne was an incredible singer and in my opinion was the voice of jazz in the 1940s. She will be missed.”
