Shock Jock Howard Stern recently had some harsh things to say about Lena Dunham and her show “Girls.” Some would say Stern’s assessment of the producer and the show are down right offensive. However, the easygoing Dunham saw the humor in the situation and let Stern’s remarks roll off her back. She had a sit down with David Letterman and told the talk show host that even Howard Stern has the right to free speech (US Weekly, Jan 12).
Stern who recently discovered “Girls” had this to say on his radio show on Monday: "It's a little fat girl who kinda looks like Jonah Hill and she keeps taking her clothes off and it kind of feels like rape. She seems -- it's like -- I don't want to see that," and went on to say "I learned that this little fat chick writes the show and directs the show and that makes sense to me because she's such a camera hog that the other characters barely are on."
Dunham told Letterman “I did find out that Howard Stern really hates [Girls], which I'm a Howard Stern fan, and I believe he's earned the right to free speech and he should go for it,"
Dunham also said that she wants Stern’s backhanded compliment “"Good for her. It's hard for little fat chicks to get anything going." on her gravestone. There aren’t many folks out there that could take Stern’s comments in stride as Dunham has.
HBO’s “Girls” has been nominated for the following Golden Globes: Best Television Series in a Comedy or Musical, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series in a Comedy or Musical. The show is described as A comedy about the experiences of a group of Brooklyn girls in their early 20's. Oh, and Lena’s character Hannah, an aspiring writer has a penchant for nudity.
“Girls” returns to HBO for season two on Jan 13
