Len Goodman might not be back on “Dancing With the Stars” next season. After crowning Meryl Davis with the big win on Tuesday night, it appears that the seasoned ballroom judge might be slipping out the back door and retiring for good. According to WetPaint on Thursday, the judge announced on the show that it might have been his last night on the program.
So what will “Dancing With the Stars” do without Len Goodman? The hole that the judge leaves would be the biggest of the three judges who gave scores for the season. Bruno and Carrie Ann don’t have quite as much pull for the show and people look to Len to refrain from sugarcoating the moves and base his score on technique.
According to Buddy TV on Wednesday, there is a growing list of possibilities for the position, but the names are almost all associated with the show already. Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Kym Johnson and Julianne Hough are the top three on the list and viewers know they might not be as objective as a real judge (who hasn't danced on the show) might be. Of course being that the top people are also familiar with the show, it might be a good decision for the producers as they don’t need to train anyone to use their score paddles.
When considering how sad it would be without Len Goodman’s face behind the desk, it’s hopeful he does reconsider retiring. The judge’s opinions really do offer value to the process and his steady advice makes the fans come back again and again.
The only thing worse the Len Goodman leaving? Well, maybe someone like Julianne Hough taking his place. The big shoes that will need to be filled have to someone who can be unbiased and offer input. There are too many people who want the job just for the spotlight and that would ruin the show.
