Lemon-lime soda is good for hangovers, a new study by Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, revealed. ABC News reports via Yahoo Oct. 9 that Sprite was the carbonated beverage that performed the best in helping those suffering from hangovers to recover faster.
The lemon-lime soda proved to do well in hangover experiments compared to 57 other drinks that included herbal teas and other soft drinks. Soda water was the next best remedy for hangovers next to Sprite. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) enzyme levels in the body were measured by the scientists who discovered that Sprite helped even them out after a hangover. It's the aldehyde enzyme that makes one feel nausea and have the unbearable headache that accompany headaches, the report revealed.
It was discovered that herbal teas performed the worst in the hangover study. In fact, the drinks prolonged symptoms of hangovers.
Although the lemon-lime soda performed well in helping hangovers in this test, the research group in China said more needs to be conducted in the effects of Sprite.
