Yesterday, Lemaricus Davidson was found guilty in the murders of Christian and Newsom. Unspeakable acts were committed against Christian and Newsom; Afterward, Newsome was executed, and Christian was left to die, bagged up in a garbage can.
This conviction is just one step in seeing justice done for the victims and their families.
Notable is the fact that the judge did not allow the jury to hear that Davidson had a prior conviction for carjacking.
Tennessee's Castle Doctrine allows a person to use deadly force wherever they have a legal right to be, including in a vehicle. However, effective deadly force usually comes from a firearm. This means that for one to use use deadly force, one must have a handgun carry permit in Tennessee.
Most surrounding states allow a person to be armed in a vehicle without a permit, but the Tennessee Legislature has not yet seen fit to trust its citizens with this right. Is the average Tennessean less trustworthy that the Average Georgian or Kentuckian?
Nothing can undo the pain and suffering that Davidson and his accomplices inflicted. But, armed victims have a greater potential of turning the tables on the predators among us.
