Leland Yee was arrested on March 26 for undisclosed charges. According to the Associated Press via Yahoo!, the California state senator for district 8 was taken into federal custody after the FBI conducted a series of raids in Sacramento and in the San Francisco Bay area.

Mark Hedlund, spokesperson for Darrell Steinberg, Senate President Pro Tem, confirmed that the FBI raided Leland Yee's office but that the Democrat's mouthpiece had nothing more to offer except to express hope that he would be able to share more details later in the day on Wednesday.

Ironically, last week 65-year-old Yee was honored by the Northern California chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for his work in upholding the California Public Records Act. The recipient and now jailbird is currently running for secretary of state on the Democratic ticket.

Meanwhile, Yee's office is now being heavily guarded by members of the CHP and members of the Senate sergeant-at arms.

Yee's arrest was confirmed by FBI spokesperson Peter Lee. He would only say that this was done as part of an ongoing investigation that apparently involved the state senator as well as Raymond Chow, another man who was arrested as well.

Chow, called the "Shrimp Boy," is allegedly the head of an organization called Ghee Kung Tong. He had recently been in prison on gun charges and was taken in when the FBI found him in San Francisco's Chinatown.

And so, as Leland Yee and Raymond Chow have been arrested, the California state senator will be arraigned in federal court on Wednesday afternoon.
