NEW YORK, NY, February 15, 2012 – Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes made her debut at New York Fashion Week walking for Designers Rolando Santana and SACHIKA during the unveiling of their 2012 FALL/WINTER Collection. Fashion Week in New York, scheduled from February 9-16, is internationally recognized as one of the premier events to showcase cutting-edge fashion and up-and-coming designers.
Lopes kicked off the festivities on February 9 by walking the red carpet at the amfAR Annual New York Gala held on the eve of New York Fashion Week. The black tie gala raises money for AIDS research, prevention and education. The event honored Italian Fashion Designer Roberto Cavalli.
Leading up to her runway appearances, Lopes attended numerous fashion shows for designers such as Custo Barcelona and Zang Toi. She walked the runway for Mexican Fashion Designer Rolando Santana on February 13 showcasing his 2012 FALL/WINTER Collection inspired by the New York 70s era.
On Valentine’s Day, Lopes showcased three distinct looks on the runway for Celebrity Fashion Designers, To-Tam and To-Nya SACHIKA. Their collection titled IVANKA: “If We Ever Meet Again” was inspired by a fictional muse created by the SACHIKA TWINS and reflected the style of a secret agent who is on a mission.
The Angolan beauty is now headed to Johannesburg, South Africa for scheduled appearances. She will attend a launch event for African Fashion International tomorrow - February 16 - in support of Joburg Fashion Week 2012, scheduled to take place in March. She is also currently on the cover of the February/March 2012 issue of “New African Woman” Magazine.
