LEGOs are a huge hit at MegaCon 2012 fans

The Greater Florida LEGO Users Group created a massive display at MegaCon 2012 this weekend, entertaining the young and the old.

How many are there? How long does it take (to build them all)? Are they glued?

The fans hit the GLFUG members with questions as they browse a mammoth display which greets fans with a giant Lichtenstein and includes Spider-Man and Batman battling crime in the large city skyline.

"We approached MegaCon four years ago about bringing a big display and they said they'd love to have us. We had done train shows, but this (MegaCon) gives us even more freedom to do what you want", says Michael Huffman of GFLUG, Greater Florida LEGO Users Group

The elaborate Lichtenstein (Girl with Hair Ribbon) in LEGOs was created for an Arts Gallery.

"Polk State College hosted an exhibit in Winter Haven called 'Art from a Toy: The LEGO System as Art' back around Legoland opening", he explained.

So how do they build everything?

"Everything is constructed onsite, with some of the large building being modular." The LEGO expert then removed the top 1/3 of a skyscraper to illustrate the feat. (Check out the slideshow)

Countless fans, young to old, were sifting through blocks, building and constructing while we were talking.

"(MegaCon) wanted something family friendly", he proclaimed, beaming with satisfaction watching the madness. "Last year, a guest came and built the Eiffel Tower."

GFLUG participates in the annual Festival of the Masters at Downtown Disney (slated for November) and you can expect to see "costumes made of LEGO...Boba Fett is one", Michael confirmed saying that the Festival theme will be the 1980's.
