Legoland threats: British hotel to close due to threats for Muslim fun day

The Legoland Windsor Resort has had to temporarily close down due to threats from right-wing extremist groups. WebProNews reported on March 6, 2013, that the resort would be closed on Saturday, March 8, 2014, and Sunday, March 9, 2014, with a tentative reopening date to come on March 14 for the 2014 season.

Legoland has received the threats simply because they agreed to host a Muslim family fun day at their park near London, England.

The Muslim Research and Development Foundation hired out the entire resort and its hotel so that 1,000 Muslim families could spend the weekend there. Last week, Legoland had to cancel the private event once its Facebook page was filled with abusive messages and posts from "right-wing" groups.

One blogger from the far-right British National Party said that Legoland should be "ashamed of themselves for bowing to these Muslims."

After police got involved, Legoland agreed that the threats were enough to shut down the 150-room hotel in Windsor this weekend. There have been no confirmations as to which groups sent Legoland the threats.

"The Legoland Windsor resort has had to close the hotel on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March 2014 after threats from right-wing groups," a Legoland spokeswoman said.

"The safety and security of our guests and our members of staff has to be our number one priority, which is why we've made the difficult decision to close the hotel."

An apology has been issued from Legoland and they will be giving full refunds to those that had booked reservations for the upcoming weekend.
