Legoland Florida will have a host of special activities on February 8 and 9 to celebration the release of The Lego Movie, which premieres officially on February 7. However, the film had a preview in Orlando on February 1, which I was lucky enough to attend. Although I can't go into any details or do a full review until the release date, I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up. I was expecting a kiddie movie, and young Lego fans will certainly love it, but there's a lot for adults, too. I literally laughed my way through most of its 100 minute run.
I wish I could give specifics, but let me just say that when a movie has a crazy cat lady, sharks with lasers, and a Unikitty, how can you go wrong? The scope of Lego figures that make guest appearances is astounding, but Batman really stands out from the bunch. Also, look for homage quotes from other movies. My favorite was "Get off my train!" (Remember "Ghost?") And one last thing: I warn you that the song "Everything is Awesome," which you've probably heard at least a bit of in the clips that have been released so far, is an ear worm.
The most I can share is the video accompanying this article, which features an introduction to the movie by Legoland Florida's General Manager, Adrian Jones.
You can take the kids to see the movie on February 7 (or go see it even if you're a childless adult...you'll still get a kick out of it, and everyone will love the heartwarming twist at the end). Then head over to Legoland Florida on Saturday or Sunday to enjoy the movie-related festivities. They include a scavenger hunt, a video game challenge, building competitions, and more. All of the activities are included with your regular admission ticket. For full details, jump to this article, which also includes a slideshow from the movie preview.
