LEGO Batman 3 to feature expanded DC characters

Traveller's Tales offered some sneak peeks at the upcoming LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham at San Diego Comic-Con last week, and the new game is sure to delight hardcore superhero fans with its vastly expanded cast of playable characters. The game, which is due to hit stores in time for Christmas 2014, is the latest in a series of wildly popular video games that depict the worlds of film franchises in LEGO bricks. Available on a variety of gaming platforms, the LEGO games attract both kids and adults with their recreations of iconic stories, interactive action, and smart sense of humor.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham follows the original LEGO Batman and LEGO Batman 2: Beyond Gotham. The second game brought a variety of favorite DC characters to the mix, including Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, and the Flash, but the newest game promises to offer a mind-blowing array of obscure, wacky, and entertaining characters. The game will feature more than 150 unique characters, including big figures like Solomon Grundy and Cyborg. Players can unlock and defend the DC universe as Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Hawkman, Batgirl, Billy Batson/Shazam, Plastic Man, and other heroes. Villains include Brainiac, the Riddler, Lex Luthor, the Joker, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Cheetah, and Catwoman. Some of the stranger characters to pop up are Krypto the Super Dog, Batcow, and Adam West (yes, the actor does his own voice work for the role). The game also features classic versions of the major Batman characters as part of a mission set in the 1960s.

According to the official game site at LEGO, other game features include space combat, the ability to hack and enter computer terminals, a gadget wheel, and iconic locations like the Bat Cave, the Hall of Justice, and the Justice League Watchtower. The story pits both the heroes and villains of the DC universe against Brainiac in a quest to collect the Lantern Rings and save worlds from being miniaturized and added to Brainiac's collection.
