Legitimate work from home job list searches increase online as man pleads guilty in Ohio for scam
Searches for lists of legitimate work from home jobs like mine, writing from home for Examiner.com (apply here for free, no credit card scam stuff), have increased in the wake of a new scam being exposed.
USA Today reports that Chester Mazzoni pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio related to a work-at-home scam that stole nearly $6,000 each from customers for almost a decade.
The folks seeking the work-at-home jobs paid for supplies, believing they'd earn a minimum of $14,000 per year for their own medical businesses, but the promise never manifested.
Mazzoni may spend up to five years in prison for his crimes.
The USA Today piece also warns of fake "Search Profit System and Money Mastery" systems that bilked other consumers out of funds -- a newer online scam for the Internet age, with the general scam being run the same way: Legitimate-looking news websites are set up promising some "Home Business Kit" for only $2.99 or so, and once the thieves get the consumers' credit and debit card numbers, they charge them hidden fees running from $30, $40 to $149 monthly and up.
The Better Business Bureau report on the work-at-home scam has solicited a bunch of comments for both lists of legitimate work-from-home jobs (like Examiner.com) and for lists of current scams.

OFF topic - not even close to a pop culture article
I think it could be a pop culture article in the sense that trying to work from home has been so popular lately...maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but it could be.
Over the years I have yet to find a legitimate work at home project. If there are any out there, I would love to hear it! Great article.
