Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) will speak at the Turlock Tea Party's Feb. 9 meeting, the organization announced Sunday via email.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Pizza Factory, 1050 W. Monte Vista Ave., Turlock.

First elected to the legislature in 2010, Olsen's campaign website states she "holds steadfast to her conservative principles including responsible use of taxpayer dollars; reforming government to require greater accountability and transparency; attracting stable, good paying jobs to California; and creating an environment that will allow businesses to thrive. Olsen also believes wholeheartedly in the principles of local control, keeping tax revenues working at the local level to provide the best schools, police and fire response, roads, parks, and other quality of life services."
One of her legislative proposals is to change the state's system of adopting a one-year budget to planning a two-year budget.
The proposed constitutional amendment, ACA 8 would "prohibit the adoption of a budget by the Legislature that leaves the state with a deficit in the succeeding year unless specific solutions are provided to eliminate the deficit," according to her legislative website. "ACA 8 will return common sense to budgeting and require better long-term planning in California."
Olsen is a former assistant vice president for communications & public affairs at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, a former member of the Modesto City Council and a former Modesto Planning commissioner.
On its website, the local Tea Party states its core values are:
- An individual who is personally responsible will be fiscally responsible.
- An individual who is personally responsible will make better decisions than a distant federal government
- An individual who is personally responsible will productively respond to and interact with markets
