TNT's newest drama premieres this week, and the cast was at San Diego Comic-Con this year to preview what to expect. On Monday, Aug. 11, we uploaded our video interview with Morris Chestnut, who offered a tease of what to expect from his character.
Check out the video interview above or here. Plus, keep reading for the highlights from Chestnut about his character Tony, a smart, quick-witted and charming Deep Cover Operations (DCO) agent.
"He's a fun character because he beats to his own drum," he said when describing Tony. "He feels like in any type of division, he's the best agent and he goes and gets information and pursues cases regardless of what his supervisor says."
"I don't start off in Deep Cover," Chestnut previewed. "I start off in Transportation Security Division." So how does he join Deep Cover? "When the show opens up, I'm in pursuit of Sean's character. He comes to my office asking me information about a murder. Once he leaves, I investigate and I find out that he was actually there when the murder occurred, and so I start pursuing him, and so I'm thinking he is the one who actually committed this murder, had something to do with it. So in my pursuit of that, I'm given some more information that leads me to believe that he may not be and other people may be involved, and so it's a whole larger conspiracy going on. So then, they bring me in – they realize how great of an agent I am, and they bring me in to start working with them."
So what else can we expect to see from Tony in season 1? He will go out into the field at some point ("I was looking for some Deep Cover people to give me some advice but I couldn't find any," the actor joked), but don't expect to see him with any legends of his own, at least not in the first season. He's not going to have to go deep into a character just yet.
